Weather and seasons

Plan for sun.
Leave room for weather.

The Gilis have a tropical climate with warm temperatures year-round and two broad seasons. Weather is never guaranteed, and sea conditions matter as much as rainfall when boats and water activities are part of the plan.

Updated 17 July 2026

Dry season and wetter season

May to October is usually drier, with July and August among the busiest months. November to April tends to bring higher humidity and more frequent rain. Tropical rain often arrives in intense bursts rather than all-day drizzle, but individual weeks can differ from the seasonal pattern.

Sea conditions and fast boats

A sunny island does not automatically mean a smooth crossing. Wind, swell and harbour conditions can alter routes or schedules. Check the Indonesian BMKG marine forecast, follow your licensed operator's instructions and avoid planning a same-day connection to an international flight.

What to pack

Bring light breathable clothing, sun protection, a refillable bottle, a compact rain layer, dry bag, reef-safe sunscreen and secure sandals. For an event, transport formal clothing in a garment cover inside a water-resistant outer bag.

Frequently asked

Practical answers.

Does it rain all day in the wet season?

Not necessarily. Rain may come in heavy showers with bright periods between, but prolonged wet weather is possible.

What is the hottest month?

Temperatures stay warm throughout the year. Humidity, breeze and cloud cover often affect comfort more than small monthly temperature differences.

Can fast boats be cancelled?

Yes. Operators can change or cancel services when conditions or port rules require it.

Is weather suitable for diving year-round?

Diving operates year-round, but visibility, current and surface conditions vary. A reputable centre will choose sites for the day's conditions and diver experience.
