Option 1: fast boat from Bali
Direct fast boats operate from ports including Padang Bai, with some services using Serangan or Sanur. Journey time depends on the port, route, stops and sea conditions. Compare the full door-to-door journey rather than the sailing time alone: a Padang Bai departure needs a longer road transfer from south Bali, while a closer port can involve a longer boat ride.
Option 2: fly or travel to Lombok
From Lombok International Airport, continue by private car or taxi towards Bangsal or Teluk Nare on the northwest coast, then take a public, shuttle or private boat. This route separates the flight from the open-sea crossing and can be practical for families, larger groups and travellers coming from elsewhere in Indonesia.
Between the three Gilis
Local island-hopping and charter boats link Trawangan, Meno and Air. Timetables and ticket arrangements can change, so confirm at the official harbour counter or through a trusted accommodation provider. Never attempt to swim between islands: channels have boat traffic and strong currents.
Arrival checklist
- Book with a licensed operator and recheck the departure port.
- Confirm what hotel pickup, harbour fees and luggage allowance include.
- Use a water-resistant luggage cover and keep electronics in a dry bag.
- Tell your hotel your boat and arrival time.
- Return to Bali or Lombok at least one day before an important international flight.
